Zero Waste gift packaging
Every year again: Unwrapping presents is fun, increases excitement and is simply part of Christmas. Yet around 10% more paper packaging ends up in the trash every year at Christmas*. We have put together a few ideas for you on how you can gift your presents sustainably packaged this year.
Tip 1: The Japanese Furoshiki . This is a square cloth that is traditionally used in Japan as packaging and carrying bag.
The cloth is also ideal for gift wrapping. Here you will find instructions for this. Grab an old cloth or scraps of fabric and get started!
The cloth can be reused and, for example, used as packaging for the next gift.
Tip 2: Recycle and upcycle. Go around your house and look for old paper and collect newspapers, calendar pages and posters. Old shipping boxes are also very suitable as second-hand packaging. If you can't find anything suitable, you can use recycled wrapping paper (e.g. in the avocado store or at dm under the label "Profissimo Nature"). You can even save yourself the need for sticky tape by securing the corners of the wrapping paper with jute string.
Instead of buying expensive gift ribbon, collect natural materials that you can attach as decoration with jute twine. How about small fir branches, cones, orange slices or red berries?

Tip 3: Packaging in glass jars. This gift packaging is particularly suitable for DIY gifts and serves both as packaging and gift wrapping.
You will also find some recipes and ideas throughout the Advent calendar.
Tip 4: Jute bag. You may find it hard to believe, but even a boring jute bag can be used to make a pretty gift. Simply tie the handles tightly together, leave a little space and then close the handles again with a square knot. This creates a small handle (see photo on the right). The technique is super quick and the jute bag can be used later for shopping.
Tip 5: And finally: After Christmas is before Christmas. Save the gift wrapping from this Christmas, fold or roll it up neatly and you can use it again next year. This saves money and conserves resources.
