5 Reasons for Zero Waste
Zero waste is a good thing, right? That's what people do now. We basically agree, but we want to show you why exactly we love zero waste so much.
Here are 5 reasons why a zero waste lifestyle is more than just reducing waste:
1. Zero waste is better for the environment.
The most obvious reason, but one that carries a lot of weight. Packaging waste is bad for our environment. Tons of it end up in our nature and in our oceans and destroy them. Plastic is particularly harmful to the environment. It contains pollutants and is not biodegradable. The masses of plastic that are already spread across the planet are worrying. It is only logical that we protect the environment by reducing our waste. Living zero waste means actively protecting the environment and animals every day. We also protect our own health. If we reduce plastic packaging and focus on fresh food, our health will also benefit in the long term.
2. Zero Waste is good for our consumption habits.
We live in a consumer society. There always has to be more and the joy of new things doesn't last long. We have completely lost touch with consumption. Switching to zero waste helps us find out what we really need and appreciate what we have. In the process, you also save a lot of money without feeling like you're doing without all the time. The fact is: consumption doesn't make us happy in the long term.
3. Zero Waste saves resources and energy.
Recycling is one way of disposing of waste, but it is not enough to save our planet. Our resources are finite and we are too wasteful with them. A zero-waste lifestyle tackles the problem at its root, saves energy and conserves resources because packaging does not have to be produced in the first place.
4. Zero Waste brings us back down to earth.
A zero-waste lifestyle helps us to become more mindful and to focus on things that are really important or to find out what is really important to us. Minimalism, for example, also shows that we don't actually need that much and that a simple lifestyle can be very satisfying. For example, you can make your own cosmetics, cleaning products, etc. from just a few ingredients. It's not that difficult, it's fun and it helps to avoid waste.
5. Zero Waste gives us freedom.
Living a zero-waste lifestyle may sound time-consuming or complicated at first. It takes time to change habits or to think differently. But once you've settled in, the lifestyle brings with it a lot of freedom. Owning a lot can be quite exhausting. You need space, time and money for it. Breaking away from consumption and possessions is liberating.
