This is the beginning of a completely new phase of life for children, and the beginning of this phase should be celebrated appropriately. It is impossible to imagine this without the large school cones, which parents lovingly fill with all kinds of small gifts to mark the start of school. However, it is not only important to give the child useful things for their first day of school and to make them happy, but also to pay attention to sustainability and thus give them an awareness of climate protection. We have put together 7 tips with which you can fill the school cone sustainably and still make your child happy.
Sustainable Writing Materials
Starting school ushers in an exciting time: in the future it will not only be about homework and dictation, but also reading, sports and art lessons. This requires a lot of equipment, which often contains a lot of pollutants and plastic. The nice thing is that there is now a sustainable alternative for almost every product. For example, there are pencils that can be planted in soil at the end of their lifespan and then a small plant will grow out of them. Or ballpoint pens whose refills can be easily replaced after use. Or erasers made from natural rubber. Or watercolor paint made from plant extracts and food coloring. Or, or, or. The choices are almost endless and include many great ideas for the school cone.
drinking bottle and lunch box made of stainless steel or glass
Lunch boxes and drinking bottles are as much a part of everyday school life as homework books. They are therefore often included in the school cone. The plastic container and bottle are a little cheaper, but the stainless steel alternatives offer many advantages:
They are generally free of harmful substances and therefore healthier for children. At the same time, they are food-safe: This means that the apple slices and the lunchbox are guaranteed not to have any tainted taste.
Homemade snacks and sweets
To get through the afternoon slump, school children like to have a small snack in their backpack. It is of course important that this is sugar-free if possible and, in the interests of sustainability, comes without packaging.
The easiest way to do this is to simply make the snacks yourself. Muesli bars, healthy oat biscuits or energy balls - there are no limits to creativity. You can find our favorite recipes on our Instagram account.
Paperwork
Writing materials are a must for starting school. Unfortunately, they are often chemically bleached or contain plastic in the cover. It is worth looking out for the Blue Angel seal: This guarantees 100% recycled paper and does not use chlorine-based bleach. Homework books, writing pads, workbooks and drawing paper are now all available in recycled versions and without plastic covers. This means that the school year can be started in a Fridays For Future-friendly way! Another great idea: the mindfulness calendar from Ein Guter Plan. This not only offers the opportunity to organize yourself well, but also gives tips for mindfulness and self-love, space for self-reflection and lists.
A library card
The library card is the perfect gadget for the start of school. It encourages reading, makes research for future presentations easier and offers a sustainable alternative to buying books. A practical side effect: If the child suddenly doesn't want to stop reading, the card can save a lot of money.
Self-sewn gym bag
Why buy an expensive brand with plastic when you can simply sew a gym bag yourself from fabric scraps? Old clothes, bed linen or old tea towels offer many options for a stylish and long-lasting gym bag. Simply find a free pattern online and get started!
A beautiful coloring book
Even if the child is now starting school, he or she is still a child. A little fun factor should therefore not be missing from the school cone. Our recommendation: The good coloring book . Coloring is fun and reduces stress levels after a long day at school. The beautiful pictures that are created with their accompanying sayings also look great on the wall.
We hope that our ideas can inspire you. Here's to a successful start to school!
