Good reasons for a vegetarian diet - discussion-free at the Christmas table
Your family doesn't want to understand why you eat vegan or vegetarian? Every year at Christmas you have to explain yourself again or fight for something other than the Christmas goose?
We feel you! That's why we've collected irrefutable arguments for a vegan diet here, once and for all. This will give you a solid foundation for any discussions during the Christmas season.
The Ethics
On average, Germans eat over 1,000 animals in their lifetime. Such high meat consumption can only be met by factory farming. Animals are thus turned into commodities and kept in very small spaces. As a result, they can no longer live out their natural needs.
This applies not only to meat, but also to eggs and dairy products. Cows are artificially inseminated to stimulate their milk production and killed as soon as production decreases. Male chicks are shredded immediately after birth because they do not lay eggs.
The fact is: In order to satisfy our meat consumption, animals have to suffer and die unnecessarily. This makes consumption unethical.
environmental protection
An estimated 18 percent of global greenhouse gases come from factory farming. Added to this is the high water consumption: 1 kg of meat requires 16,000 liters of water. Grain, on the other hand, only needs 1,350 liters of water. The rainforest also suffers from our meat consumption and is increasingly being cut down to grow animal feed.
Health
Vegans live healthier. A vegan diet is characterized by a high proportion of plant-based products, lots of fiber and low fat intake. This reduces the risk of heart disease and cancer.
enjoyment
For many people, a vegan diet means doing without. In reality, however, it is much more varied and creative. Since traditional dishes have to be balanced, numerous chefs have come up with wonderfully sophisticated recipes and ideas that create a complex, full-bodied, filling dish. Anyone who thinks that vegan cuisine is boring or doesn't fill you up is very much mistaken - and is missing out on something.
