In the recent past, even major liberal newspapers have published reports that reinforce the prejudice that shopping without packaging is too inconvenient, too expensive and therefore not practical. In addition, many comment columns are dominated by the opinion that packaging-free stores are far too expensive and the reason for this is that the operators are sure to line their own pockets.
We want to respond to this. So we're going to drop our pants and give you a pretty deep and transparent insight into our finances.
6802 customers - that's actually quite a few for our store. In the past we even had around 100 buyers a day - in the store alone. Purchases in the online shop are not included here - currently only amount to around 3-8 purchases a day.
The gross turnover stated here only includes sales subject to tax in Germany. Including voucher sales and tax-free exports, we arrive at revenue of 181,393 euros from September to December 2022.
We still need to complete something here: We collected 18,924 euros in VAT. As a company, we are not charged VAT ourselves and can deduct input tax from it. Input tax is the tax that we ourselves paid to other companies. In the same period, this amounted to 12,403.98 euros. This gives us a sales tax balance of 6,520.02 euros that we paid to the tax office. Sounds complicated? It is. No problem if input tax and sales tax balance mean nothing to you!
Now it gets exciting. And you'll notice: our purchasing is pretty capital-intensive. On top of that, we often have to make advance payments, understandably. The figure given is net.
The number refers to pure payments, i.e. net salaries. Apart from 2 mini-jobbers and working students who work around 40 hours per month, most work between 20-32 hours per week.
Of course, there are also costs for social insurance and income tax. Our company is therefore very capital-intensive. This is also due to the fact that just a few months ago we generated almost twice as much revenue and were still very broadly positioned in terms of personnel.
How often does it happen that managing directors disclose their salaries?
And now the final question is: who benefits from packaging-free stores?
